Der Film verdeutlicht die Folgen der neokolonialen Infrastrukturprojekte „Tren Maya“ – an dem die Deutsche Bahn beteiligt ist – und „Interozeanischer Korridor“ in Südmexiko. Für Transportwege, Industrieparks, Monokulturen und Massentourismus werden Naturwälder gerodet und Gemeindeflächen enteignet. Die indigene Bevölkerung leistet Widerstand, da ihre Selbstbestimmung, Ernährungssouveränität und Kultur bedroht sind. Um die Pläne durchzusetzen, hat die mexikanische Regierung das Militär mit Bau und Sicherung des Schienennetzes beauftragt und am Gewinn beteiligt. The film highlights the consequences of the neocolonial infrastructure projects “Tren Maya” – in which Deutsche Bahn is involved – and the “Interoceanic Corridor” in southern Mexico. Natural forests are being cleared and communal lands expropriated to make way for transportation routes, industrial parks, monocultures, and mass tourism. The indigenous population is resisting, as their self-determination, food sovereignty, and culture are under threat. To push through these plans, the Mexican government has tasked the military with constructing and securing the rail network and has given them a share of the profits. Despite violations of environmental laws and human rights, the megaproject is set to be extended into neighboring countries. The film crew from Zwischenzeit e. V. documented this development through a variety of voices over the course of several years.
